Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada) is planning to hold a second round of lottery for 2,450 under-construction flats around Diwali this year. The flats, which would be completed early next year, would be located in Virar, said Mhada vice-chairman Satish Gavai.

Till now, Mhada has held only one lottery in a year. These 2450 low cost flats will be in Vasai Virar area and the rates for these houses will be Rs. 3200 psf. Actually these flats were earlier expected to be part of the lottery scheduled for May 31, but due to technical problems, the plan of including these houses in the lottery was dropped.

However, now senior officers in MHADA say that the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation has given its go-ahead for the houses to be build up to 22 floors, the houses will be included in the lottery later this year. If the lottery is conducted, it will be the first time MHADA will hold two lotteries within a span of six months. Last year, MHADA had held a joint lottery of the Konkan and Mumbai board.The government is encouraging Mhada to hold the second round of lottery in view of the 2014 general election.
