Akkineni Nageswara Rao Dies At 91 | Akkineni Nageswara Rao Dead | Akkineni Nageswara Rao Passed Away | Akkineni Nageswara Rao Died


Legendary Telugu actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao passed away at a private hospital in Hyderabad at 2.12 am on Wednesday after battling cancer for several months. He was 91 and is survived by three daughters and two sons, one of whom is actor Nagarjuna.

Battling cancer for years, Mr Rao had an acting career spanning 75 years and had acted in the lead role as hero in 240 Telugu films apart from working in several Tamil films as well.

He was honoured with India's second highest civilian award Padma Vibhushan in 2011. He was also honoured with Padma Shri. Born on September 20, 1923 in Venkata Raghavapuram of Krishna district, this first generation actor in Telugu debuted with Dharmapatni in 1941. There was no looking back and he went on to showcase his skills as an actor par excellence in 256 films, including Devadasu, Laila Majnu, Anarkali,Premabhishekham, Prema Nagar and Megha Sandesham to name a few.

The ANR National Award was instituted by the Akkineni International Foundation in the honour of Akkineni Nageswara Rao in 2005 to recognize people for their lifetime achievements and contributions to the Indian film industry.
