Padukone starrer romantic comedy, "Chennai Express" has finally
smashed the lifetime record of Aamir Khan's "3 Idiots" at the
domestic box office. It has now become the highest grosser film ever in the
history of Indian cinema after breaking the record of "3 Idiots" just
by a small margin. Shah Rukh Khan's Chennai Express has crossed the Rs 202
crore mark today beating the record set by Aamir Khan's 3 Idiots. Chennai
Express had also earned the fastest Rs 100 crore in just four days of its
release.
Film critic Taran Adarsh
tweeted the figures, thus Chennai Expresshas achieved this feat in mere 14 days
of its release. "Records are meant to be shattered and #ChennaiExpress
does just that. Becomes the BIGGEST grosser of Hindi cinema," trade analyst
Taran Adarsh tweeted. Finally, the record that we have all been waiting for –
Chennai Express is now, officially, the highest grossing film ever. The film
has gone past the lifetime collections of Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots in just 15
days since its theatrical release on 9th August. Shahrukh Khan and Deepika
Padukone now hold almost all records, including another biggie – Highest
Distributor Share.

Holds the record for highest
second-day collection with 28.05 crore.
It became the fastest film to
cross 100 crore mark in
India.
It earned 6.75 crore from
paid preview, breaking "3 Idiots" paid preview record.
"CE" became the
highest first day earner with 33.12
crore, beating Salman's "Ek Tha Tiger" record.
By making 156 crore in just seven days, the film
made the highest first week collection.
It became the first film to
cross 200 crore mark in
15 days.
It is the highest grosser
film ever in India, breaking "3 Idiots" lifetime collection
record.
The release of Ekta Kapoor's
Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobaara last Friday could not stop Chennai Express.
However, there were allegations made by Ekta Kapoor that Chennai Express did
not not provide enough screen space to OUATIMD. Clearing the air Shah Rukh Khan
had said: "We had booked single screen theatres for two weeks. A desire
came from there (Balaji) that look we are coming on August 15 and can you give
us some theatres. I don't do the business, they (UTV) said we will give you 40
to 50 per cent (screen space) which we did." The 'King Khan' is also happy
that his children Aryan and Suhana loving the film.
