Lee Thompson Young, who starred in Disney’s
“The Famous Jett Jackson” and most-recently in TNT’s “Rizzoli & Isles,”
committed suicide, his manager told FOX411. He was 29. The alarm was raised
when the star, who has been performing in the crime show Rizzoli & Isles as
Angie Harmon's partner Detective Barry Frost, did not show up for work today.
His death came only hours after US network TNT announced it was renewing the
series. "We are beyond heartbroken at the loss of this sweet, gentle,
good-hearted, intelligent man.
Lee will be cherished and remembered by all
who knew and loved him, both on- and offscreen, for his positive energy,
infectious smile and soulful grace," TNT, studio Warner Bros. and series
producer Janet Tamaro said in a joint statement. “It is with great sadness that I announce
that Lee Thompson Young tragically took his own life this morning,"
longtime manager Jonathan Baruch said in a statement. “Lee was more than just a
brilliant young actor, he was a wonderful and gentle soul who will be truly
missed. We ask that you please respect
the privacy of his family and friends as this very difficult time.” The South
Carolina native got his big break when he starred as the title character in
“The Famous Jett Jackson” from 1998 to 2001. He then appeared in the Disney
flick “Johnny Tsunami.”
According to a biography from TNT, Young was
inspired to pursue acting when, at age, 10, he played Martin Luther King Jr. in
a play in Young's hometown of Columbia, South Carolina. Los Angeles police say
Young was found dead in North Hollywood sometime after 8am local time Monday
(1am AEST Tuesday). Police officers notified a supervisor after finding Young's
body, and the Los Angeles Fire Department responded and pronounced him dead at
the scene, police spokeswoman Sally Madera said. Young got his break in 1998
starring in the Disney show The Famous Jett Jackson playing a TV action hero
who returns to his roots for a less high-profile life. The series ran until
2001. Young also appeared on the TV shows “Smallville” and “Scrubs.” He went on
to play Chris Comer in the 2004 movie Friday Night Lights
