Irandam Ulagam Movie Review | Irandam Ulagam Movie Story | Irandam Ulagam Movie Hit Or Flop | Irandam Ulagam Movie

Tamil film 'Irandam Ulagam' is a love story set against the backdrop of two different worlds. The love story of Irandam Ulagam is set against the backdrop of two different worlds. The film has been in the making for more than a year. Initially, the fantasy entertainer was expected to be released for Deepavali. A lot of computer graphics in the film has delayed the post-production works. “We have discovered the presence of only few worlds and many more could exist. Even scientists think that we are not alone. My movie is a fictional account of such a fantasy world,” said director Selvaraghavan in an interview with The New Indian Express.

Irandam Ulagam has two separate worlds and it is about the stories that unfold in a parallel universe. Selvaraghavan narrates the two tales with eye-pleasing visuals. Ramya (Anusha Shetty) has a liking towards Madhu Balakrishnan (Arya), but he initially refuses her offer for marriage. But in the dream world, Arya tries to woo Anushka. Irandam Ulagam / Varna is the tale of a young doctor (played by Arya) and his colleague (played by Anushka), in this world, sharing a companionship and the dream-world of eternal togetherness. The chain of events is set in a sluggish motion that relentlessly leads him to a point (in both worlds) from where the story takes a volte-face. Both the characters in the two worlds get estranged in a similar situation. Hope you are darn confused to understand the story. Don’t worry, there are many people still racking their brains as what the story is?

The story keeps juggling between the love story of dream world and the tale set here, the place where we are living. After turning down Ramya's offer, Madhu falls in love with her and approaches her to marry her, but this time, she  rejects his offer citing that she has found another man. How he tries to win her heart and change her stand form the crux of their story. In the other world, Arya struggles to impress Anushka, who is a tough woman. There is also a plot of two clans fighting over Amma (mother love). The story takes a little interesting turn when Arya, on Earth, meets the people of other world.

The movie can be lauded for its visuals and its background score, which is melodious and lilting. But you can’t see some fine gems coming from the repertoire of Anirudh Ravichander biting the dust in insipid scenes. Harris Jayraj is unimpressive with his music. The second half is all set in ‘that’ world. Though the locales breathe some life into that world, the narration makes it mundane. As the film progresses, every new scene saps its essence drop by drop. Arya’s character juggles between two worlds adding more confusion. It’s surprising to see no change in the behavioral traits of the people as per the eco-system of the respective worlds and this fails to bring a stark contrast. Even in that world people are stuck in the vortex of family ties, quarrels with spouses, brawl with neighbors amid not knowing about love. In a sheer artificial way, all the earthly emotions surface from Anushka’s character during the climax.

A Telugu dubbed version of the movie is also released simultaneously as “Varna”. The movie is also being released in Hindi, Russian, Georgian, Uzbek, and Turkish languages. It was originally scheduled for a Diwali release but got postponed Anushka’s acting, her chemistry with Arya, Ramji’s cinematography, along with the CGI effects in the movie are said to be the highlights. Selvaraghavan’s name is enough to make the movie one of the most anticipated releases of the year. Looks like Arya is all set to record a hattrick after both his previous movies “Raja Rani” and “Arrambham” were declared super hits.

Movie Rating : 3/5
